Ostomy Pastes

Ostomy pastes—Packaged in a tube

Comes in paste form used to fill small defects to create flatter pouching surface

Used to “caulk” the junction between the skin and the barrier or wafer to reduce undermining

Most contain alcohol so better used on intact skin

You can also apply the ostomy barrier paste on the back of the skin barrier and allow alcohol to dissipate first before application.

Reference: Emory University, 2013

Alcohol may take about 30 seconds to dissipate (personal communication, Hollister representative, 2014).

Other brands, example Brava by Coloplast has no alcohol (personal correspondence, Coloplast representative, 2014)

This is one example of a paste.  There are numerous brands out in the market.
