Protrusion Around Stoma example Hernia

Peristomal hernia presents as a bulge in the immediate peristomal area.

It can be caused by weak abdominal musculature, excessive stretching of the muscle or excessive removal of SQ tissue or fascia, or inadequate closure of soft tissue structures around the stoma.

It can also be caused by creation of stoma outside of the rectus muscle.

Patient may need a flexible system to accommodate the hernia.
