Routine Skin Care

Pouching system removal—gently peel away from skin, while pressing down or supporting the skin.  Examining the removed pouch may also help identify the location of the leakage

Cleansing—preferred: water only.  Acceptable: soap without residue or commercial peristomal cleanser.

Shaving—electric shavers are generally used.

Safety razor are not routinely recommended.  But if using safety razor, shave away from stoma and use either wet (mild soap) or dry lubricant (example shaving cream or ostomy barrier powder). Then rinse and dry skin.  Others may choose to have laser hair removal.
